Elvis Presley was long ago dubbed the “King of Rock and Roll” and his fame has endured long after his death, ready to reignite as the 40^th anniversary of his death approaches. Although he died young at only 42 (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977), his rise to fame was meteoric and by 30 he was the highest paid performer of the time. His sudden death has long cast a shadow of doubt in people’s minds and created a living (and still growing) legend of Elvis sightings; we’re just not ready to give up the king!

His life was just as full of legend, from the iconic Kiss photo, a mystery only recently solved by Barbara Gray to his unique culinary tastes that still inspire food trends today. His fondness for peanut butter and banana sandwiches was well recorded as was the story of a late night run to Colorado for the Fool’s Gold loaf made by the Colorado Mine Company in Denver. As the story goes, he and some friends got a late night craving and took Elvis’s private jet to Denver for the now famous sandwich. This monstrosity starts with a whole loaf of French bread, hollowed out, buttered, and baked. A full jar of peanut butter and a full jar of jelly are slathered on and finished with a full pound of, yup… bacon!

As his obituary predicted “At his death, Mr. Presley had been an indelible part of the nation’s musical consciousness for 20 years.” Elvis’s mark on American culture and music truly has been permanent. We will be honoring his legacy for the week surrounding the anniversary of his death on the 16^th with an homage we hope he would have appreciated. We’re adding bacon to our peanut butter and jelly cupcake, in memory of the Fool’s Gold Loaf as well as having a limited run of our personal favorite, the “Fat Elvis” which is a decadent combination of chocolate cake, banana Bavarian, peanut butter buttercream, chocolate ganache, and more banana!
